What is Membership? PDF Print E-mail

If church membership is something that you've been considering and you are looking for more information, you came to the right place ...

The Bible uses the metaphor of a body to describe the church: "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ" (1 Cor. 12:12).

It’s a beautiful illustration of how we’re each created to serve different functions, we need everyone to function in order to be a healthy body, and all of us as separate parts find purpose and unity under Jesus, "the head of the body, the church" (Col. 1:18).

At Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, we strongly believe that every Christ-follower is called to belong to the local church.

If you’re already a Christian, if you’re already connected in some form of community (through Growth Groups or some other weekly ministry for example), or if you’re already giving of your finances and your time, then you’re already fulfilling some functions of a member.

By taking the step of membership and making an official commitment to the body, we are better able to provide spiritual care and pastoral support to you, in part, because we will know who you are, but also because the Bible requires that we take care of our church family first (Acts 20:28; Eph. 2:19; Gal. 6:10; Hebrews 13:17).

There are three easy steps that you can take right now toward membership:

1. Contact the church office (HERE) or talk with one of the pastors this weekend about your interest.

2. Download and read this short, informative Q & A sheet (HERE) we've put together.

3. Make plans to attend the next Membership Class - they are offered several times each year.
